How do I join the PTA?

Complete a Membership Form and return to school with your membership dues of $9.00 per member.  A Membership Form can be downloaded from the PTA Forms & Fliers Page or by clicking here.

What is my membership fee used for?

Your membership fee helps to fund programs, events & activities for the PTA.  While a portion of your membership fee is paid to the state PTA, a portion is retained at our school for programs that directly benefit the students at Sunset Valley.

How can I volunteer at school?

Volunteers need to be a current member of the Sunset Valley PTA and must provide appropriate clearance documentation.  Once your clearances are approved by the district you will need to get a Volunteer Badge. 

You may contact the PTA President or a Committee Chairperson to find out how you can help.  You can find their email address by clicking here or going to the Contacts page. Also be on the lookout for fliers, emails, Facebook posts and text alerts for communication when extra help is needed.  Volunteers are needed all year long.

Why do I have to be a PTA member in order to volunteer?

The PTA purchases insurance to cover all PTA functions, so if you would like to help in the classroom or volunteer at an event (during or after school), you must be a PTA member.   

How do I get my clearances?

Act 34 - Criminal Background and Act 131 - Child Abuse background checks can be done online and are offered at NO COST for volunteers in the state of PA.  Links to complete clearances are:

Only required for those who have not been a resident of PA for 10 continuous years.  If you have been a resident of PA for 10 continuous years, you must complete the waiver provided by the school.  Click here to access waiver.

How do I get my clearances to the district?

For the 2016-2017 school year, Norwin has introduced Safe Kids, an online system that streamlines the acquisition, processing, and tracking of background checks and clearances for District employees, substitutes, volunteers, club sponsors, boosters and contractors. Safe Kids is the District's means of tracking and approving Clearance and Background check information. Once you have received you clearances you can upload them directly to the Safe Kids system.

How do I get my Volunteer Badge?

You will receive an email from the district when your clearances are accepted.  If it has been 2 weeks and you have not received an email, you can log into Safe Kids to verify if your clearances have been accepted.  If your status is marks "SEALED" then your clearances ave been accepted. You can then go to the Technology Department to get your badge.  The Technology Department is on the bottom floor of the administration building at 281 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon PA, 15642. Enter the building via door 3. It’s on the side of the building under the overhang. Ring the buzzer and state you are there to obtain a volunteer ID badge.

NOTE: IF YOUR CLEARANCES AND BACKGROUND CHECKS HAVE NOT BEEN PROCESSED AND ACCEPTED YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY FROM RECEIVING AN ID. The technology department DOES NOT process clearances and background checks in Safe Kids. Secretaries in the school buildings do.

I can't find the PTA Facebook Group, how do I join it?

The Sunset Valley PTA Facebook Group is a secret group on Facebook.  This is a Facebook term used to define groups that wish to remain completely private on Facebook.  The group cannot be searched and posts & comments will only show in the Newsfeed of other members.  They will not be visible to friends-of-friends.  To join the group, contact the PTA President at president@svepta.com to be added.

How do I sign-up for text and/or email reminders about events & activities?
